Valerie June, Minglewood Hall, Memphis, TN, 2014
This is an unused photo (… if I’m posting it, how is it unused?) from Valerie June’s recent performance in Memphis. The real edits should post on Impose soon, but I can’t help myself, I have to go ahead and post one now. It’s such a rare thing for me to shoot in a venue that has professional level stage lighting that I can’t help but be excited by the results I got. A big thanks to Impose for the opportunities they’ve provide.
Son of VOM, The Buccaneer, Memphis, TN, 2014
As interwoven and incestuous as Memphis bands are, the term “super group” seems kind of … pointless? Everyone in a band in this city is in at least 3 of them, and all of them are super.
So here we have Son of VOM, comprised of Keith and Charlotte from the Manateees (swapping instruments for this one), Joe Pestilence from Buck Biloxi and the Fucks, and ex Final Solution, Goner’s Zac Ives. The name pretty much says it all, they’re a VOM cover band, which is a pretty fantastic idea, but sadly doesn’t give them too much to work with (1 EP, 1 bootleg?). Breadth of material aside, it was a great, dare I say thoughtful, performance with visual cues taken from the "I’m In Love With Your Mom" video. I really hope to see a repeat.

The evening might have ended badly for me, but it started out pretty good.
